I love misunderstandings myself, but I confess to being a fan of the happy/hopeful ending. My rule is that the characters earn it.
They do seem genuinely less at odds once in the dream, not to mention that as per the shooting script at least, Arthur was genuinely impressed by Eames in the "condescension" scene.
I felt like crying while writing it; apparently the feeling transfers.
