State of Kate and A Meme (and a terrible rhyming pun, I do apologize for that)
So, I've been rather absent on LJ and Twitter lately, I do apologize. I've been drifting around the Internet but not being very sociable, that's very hermit-like of me. I should be on Twitter more, we shall see how it goes.
Aside from that, I'm doing well enough. Tudors muse came back for one of the stories at least, Hetalia RP muse is alive and kicking but sadly the Hetalia writing muse does not seem to be. X-Men muse... Horrible timing for what that's doing, can we not discuss it? Inception muse went somewhere, left a note saying it'll be back once it's found itself or something. That's what AMTBR muse did a year ago; I'm still waiting for it to come back. :/
On the note of Hetalia RP, I wish to God I could share the second human AU my RP partner and I are doing. It's... not quite an urban fantasy, set in this alternate world run by various theocracies over the secular, national governments, with witches and Druids and fae, and it's just... Alternate modern era with a Victorian feel, not exactly steampunk but very much inspired by Lyra's world in the His Dark Materials books. There's also an undercover revolution and not-quite-tragic romance and bloody hell, it's fun.
In real life, college continues. I'm withdrawing from a class because I just can't seem to work up a modicum of interest in it. I have to take it, so I'll sign up for it again next semester and hope it works out next time. Having the college version of a midlife crisis when I realize that my history class is my favorite class and my journalism courses bore me. Should I have majored in something different? But then I remember how much I love being in the field, and realize my problem this semester has a lot to do with a beat I have no interest or expertise in. And hope that's all. Well, that and being required to edit shit. I hate editing. Yet I like making fanvids. I think it has much to do with being required to use Macs. But anyway, that's that.
Maybe I'll see if I can switch to the new curriculum so I can take more varied courses. It's a thought.
About that history class, though... I was writing my midterm essays this morning. I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to enjoy writing midterm essays. Isn't that doing it wrong? But I've always loved essay-writing, it's nearly as much fun as a story or a good article; fantastic when it all comes together into soup. I fear I have proven yet again that I am a total geek. But then, I'm not entirely sure I actually give a damn. So that's all right then.
On to this meme, for once not jacked from anyone, I'm starting it though I am sure that someone else has done it.
List five ways in which fandom, specific or general, has invaded real life for you.
1.) An inability to keep a straight face in class because something your teacher said/the subject matter reminds you of a fandom. (Hi, there, history class and Hetalia. Or "specificity" and Inception.)
2.) Spoilers for a show you don't watch, or news about an actor in a fandom you're not in, still leads to the first thought of "How will the shippers react to that?"
3.) Smirking every time a street looks to be named after a character in your fandom (Tudors gives me major trouble with this one...)
4.) Words and phrases from a fictional universe begin slipping into your real-world vocabulary, not as a joke, but simply out of habit.
5.) You use fandom/real life parallels to help you remember things - bonus if it's in school and you bring it up. (Thank God, for me this was Tudors, which was actually still respectable in a political philosophy course. Or, well, it was the only one I mentioned out loud.)
